Himanta calls Gaurav Gogoi a ‘Pak agent’, vows to expose alleged anti-India links

GUWAHATI, May 28: In a sensational political escalation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday accused newly appointed Assam Congress president and MP Gaurav Gogoi of having ties to Pakistan, calling him a “shameless person” and a “Pak agent.” Sarma claimed that Gogoi and his wife are involved in anti-India activities, alleging connections with Pakistan’s intelligence agencies and promising to reveal explosive evidence on September 10.

Speaking at a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma reacted strongly to Gogoi’s televised statement in which the Congress leader acknowledged having visited Pakistan in the past. Sarma alleged the trip was far from innocent and hinted at deeper, more damaging revelations.

“The person who has no shame can speak like this. What he revealed is only 10 per cent of what I will expose on September 10. Rahul Gandhi will have to answer because he is promoting Pakistani agents in India,” Sarma said.

According to the Chief Minister, Gogoi’s wife was involved with international lobbies allegedly linked to Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and had even sought access to India’s Intelligence Bureau (IB) through questionable means.

“I have IB documents. His wife has been involved in activities flagged in intelligence reports. They were working with a so-called climate lobby that has ties with Pakistan’s army and ISI,” he claimed.

Sarma went on to make personal allegations about Gogoi’s family, claiming that their children hold UK citizenship and that after 2021, Gogoi had surrendered his son’s Indian passport in favour of British nationality.

“His daughter was born in the UK, his son was born in India. But after I became CM, he surrendered his son’s Indian passport to make him a UK citizen. I have the exact copy of the application,” he said.

Dismissing Gogoi’s defence, Sarma accused him of misleading the public. “He’s fooling people. We will take action. Who said we won’t?” he asked, without specifying what legal steps the government might pursue.

Sarma further alleged that Gogoi had sought classified nuclear information and that his wife had received a salary from an NGO allegedly linked to ISI. He framed the issue not as a political spat but as a matter of national security.

“This has nothing to do with elections. This is a national security issue. Today, Gogoi admits his visit to Pakistan only after being made state Congress president. Why didn’t he reveal this earlier during the panchayat elections?” Sarma said.

The chief minister concluded with a sweeping indictment of the Congress party: “Congress is now the B team of Pakistan. These questions must be answered by Rahul Gandhi himself.”

Gogoi has yet to respond to the latest round of allegations. The political temperature in Assam — already tense ahead of upcoming elections — appears set to rise further as the BJP doubles down on its national security narrative.
