Shillong, Sept 30: The HID Foundation Shillong has raised alarm over the growing incidents of crimes against children in Meghalaya, particularly in Shillong city, and has called upon parents to exercise greater vigilance and responsibility in safeguarding their children.
In a statement issued by Executive Coordinator Soniland Malai, the Foundation noted that media reports have increasingly highlighted cases of killings and harassment involving children, pointing to a disturbing trend across the state.
“The HID Foundation Shillong strongly urges parents and families, including fathers and mothers, to be extremely cautious since crimes against children are happening everywhere in the state, especially in Shillong city,” the statement said.
The Foundation stressed that the safety and future of children depend largely on the alertness and responsibility of parents. “It’s crucial to be vigilant and watchful before anything happens,” Malai added that families must take proactive steps to prevent harm.
The Foundation also stressed the need for collective action involving families, communities, law enforcement agencies and child care institutions to create a safer environment for children’s well-being and development.
