Guwahati, June 15: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 2–3 days in Guwahati, prompting the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) to urge citizens to take precautionary measures.
According to the IMD forecast, the city is likely to experience thundershowers with a 75% probability, raising concerns over waterlogging, traffic disruption, and potential landslides in vulnerable areas.
In light of recent incidents of water blockage and landslides triggered by heavy downpours, ASDMA has advised residents—particularly those in low-lying and hillside zones—to remain alert and stock essential items like medicines and candles. People in landslide-prone zones have been urged to relocate to designated relief camps or other safer locations for the next three days.
Emergency response teams are on standby. Citizens are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and follow updates issued by ASDMA through helpline numbers 0361-1070, 0361-1079 (state level) and 0361-1077 (district level).
ASDMA assured that the situation is being closely monitored and timely updates will be provided.
