Hailstorm damages over 120 homes, affects 264 people across 9 villages in West Jaintia Hills

Shillong, April 14: A severe hailstorm that struck parts of West Jaintia Hills on Monday has left more than 120 households affected across nine villages, according to preliminary reports from field officials.

All the nine villages are under Laskein C&RD Block.

As per official information received till 6 PM, 24 households in Thadbamon, 7 in Mukroh, and 96 in Umsalang were damaged due to the hailstorm.

Additionally, 40 houses and a school building were partially damaged and 264 people affected in six villages, including Barato, Latymphu, Maitdein, Iongkynshur, Thangrain, and Bhain, due to heavy winds and hail.

Four households were temporarily relocated to relatives’ homes. No casualties have been reported.

Till the filing of this report, the details of consolidated damage assessments were still being complied, which will be submitted by the concerned Block Development Office (BDO).
