Shillong, May 12: Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Monday informed that the department has written to the urban affairs department for allotment of land for setting up a permanent Shillong campus of the Captain Williamson Sangma State University.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said, “In regards to the status of the state university, we are ready in all aspects. Colleges which have applied for affiliation, have started taking admission. It is not an issue.”
He added that while the department is waiting for allotment of land for the permanent Shillong campus it is in the process of identifying a temporary office for the Shillong campus of the state university.
“We were supposed to use the Bijini Complex at Laitumkhrah but NEHU has taken up the matter with the High Court challenging the ownership of the Bijini Complex. So, let the court decide the matter first,” Sangma said.
Asked, he said ,”NEHU is claiming that it belongs to them and state government is also claiming the land. NEHU has challenged the ownership of the Bijini Complex. Let the court decide now. In the meantime, we are finding a temporary location for starting the Shillong campus.”
