Tura, Sept 7: The Sessions Court in South Garo Hills has convicted four men for illegally entering India without valid documents and sentenced them to imprisonment under the Foreigners Act, 1946.
In the first case (Gasuapara PS Case No. 03/2025), investigated by SI Rush T. Sangma, the chargesheet (CS No. 02/2025) was filed on May 6, 2025. After trial in the matter of State of Meghalaya vs. Nazir Miah, Shuyal Miah, and Faysal Miah, Sessions Judge Febroneous Silkam Sangma found all three accused guilty under Section 14A(b) of the Foreigners Act. They were each sentenced to two years of imprisonment and fined ₹20,000, with an additional two months of imprisonment in default of payment.
In a separate case (Baghmara PS Case No. 03/2025), investigated by SI Dament Ch. Sangma, a chargesheet (CS No. 07/2025) was filed on May 31, 2025. The accused, Hafikul Islam, was also convicted under Section 14A(b) of the Foreigners Act for illegal entry. He was sentenced to two years of imprisonment and fined ₹10,000, with an additional two months of imprisonment in default of payment.
