Five Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Byrnihat

Shillong, May 19: Five Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district on Monday morning.

Hafix Sigdah (56) of Norail Jylla, Bangladesh, his wife Ujala Begum (35) and their three children – Harim Sigdah, Lejaa Khatun and Alina Khatun – were travelling on a tourist vehicle when they were stopped and found not to possess any valid documents during a naka checking at Byrnihat, police said.

On enquiry, it was learnt that they were Bangladeshi nationals who entered India illegally last year and were returning to Bangladesh illegally via Shillong, they said.

A case has been registered and they have been produced in court. Investigation is going on.
