Tuensang, July 29: The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has urged the Nagaland government to convene a special session of the Legislative Assembly immediately to enact legislation for the constitution of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ENPO welcomed the State Cabinet’s July 6 decision to grant legislative autonomy to the FNTA in line with the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed between the Centre, the Nagaland government and ENPO in New Delhi on February 5, 2026.

The organisation said consultations between the state government and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under Clause 3.3 of the MoA had made significant progress and were now in the final stage.

It pointed out that the state government had itself announced on July 6 that a special Assembly session would be convened to pass legislation empowering the FNTA with legislative authority over subjects to be transferred to it.
“Therefore, in pursuance of the State Cabinet’s decision and resolution dated July 6, 2026, the State Government is expected to convene a special session of the Legislative Assembly without any further delay,” the ENPO said.
The organisation expressed hope that this year’s Independence Day would mark the fulfilment of the commitments made under the MoA and reflect the trust and commitment of all stakeholders involved in the process.

ENPO also recalled that it had postponed its proposed public rally on July 10 following appeals from the Nagaland government, the ENLU convenor and the state’s Rajya Sabha MP to allow the dialogue process to continue.

Appealing to both the state government and the Centre to expedite the formation of the FNTA, the ENPO said the move would be in line with the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047” and the Government of India’s principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas, Sabka Vishwas.”
