Shillong, Jan 18: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced the dates for the Legislative Assembly elections in Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland. All the three states will go for single phase polling. Tripura will go to polls in less than a month’s time whereas, Meghalaya and Nagaland will have the elections in 40 days.
Meghalaya and Nagaland will go for polling on February 27, 2023; Tripura will have the polling on February 16, 2023.
The date for counting of votes is March 2, 2023 for all the states.
The entire electioneering process has to be completed by March 4.
The date for issue of gazette notification is January 21 for Tripura, and January 31 for Meghalaya and Nagaland. The last date of making nominations is January 30 for Tripura; and February 7 for Meghalaya and Nagaland. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on January 31 for Tripura; and February 8 for Meghalaya and Nagaland.
The last date of withdrawal of candidatures is February 2 for Tripura, whereas it is February 10 for Meghalaya and Nagaland.
With the announcement of election dates, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has also come into effect in all the three states.
