Shillong, June 29: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday greeted everyone on the auspicious occasion of Eid-al-Adha also known as Bakri Eid. He wished the Muslim community a blessed Eid filled with happiness, peace and prosperity.
Taking to Twitter, CM Conrad wrote, “I wish the Muslim community celebrating this festival, a blessed Eid filled with happiness, peace and prosperity. May the spirit of this Eid with its message of solidarity and unity, remind all of the importance of giving and compassion.”

What is Eid al-Adha?
Eid al-Adha, also popularly known as Bakri Eid is a festival which is celebrated across the world. Eid-al-Adha is also known as Eid ul Zuha in Arabic. This is the “festival of sacrifice” which is celebrated prominently amongst Muslims.
This festival reminds of the supreme sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim that made out of his strong faith in Allah.
It is believed that, Ibrahim was asked by God to sacrifice his only son to which he had agreed, later he was asked to sacrifice a lamb instead.
Every-year, on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims from all over the world celebrates Eid ul Adha (Eid ul Zuha or Bakrid) which is celebrated for three days. The dates of Eid al-Adha differs in different countries due to differences in geographical locations.
