Shillong, July 6: One of the four persons found hacked to death behind Umpleng village market in East Jaintia Hills on Saturday morning has been identified.
The victim has been identified as one Ravi Rai (23) from Pastha Elam, Nepal. The police are yet to identify the antecedents of the other three victims, police said in a statement.
The police said after receiving information about the bodies, a Crime Scene Unit from Shillong, Mobile forensic Crime Scene Unit, and Magistrate were requisitioned and an inquest of the bodies conducted at the spot.
Later, the bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital, Khliehriat for post mortem. The bodies were found with multiple cut injuries, likely caused by sharp objects and all appeared to have been murdered. All the bodies were also tightly bound with rope.
A Special Investigation Team has been formed to assist the Investigation Officer for further probe into the case.
Police are yet to make any headway into the case, but the brutal killings have sent shockwaves through the society. The case has become complicated with all victims reportedly being non-tribal youths.
