Shillong, April 18: In view of the massive surge in heat wave across the Garo Hills, district administrators of West Garo Hills and East Garo Hills have decided to shut down schools for 3 days in their respective districts.

In an order issued on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Jagdish Chelani, declared that all Primary, Middle, Secondary, and Higher Secondary schools will be closed (Day Schools, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm) in the district from April 19, 2023, to April 21, 2023.

The letter also stated that the heat wave is a matter of concern and risk of heat stroke and dehydration. The schools in the district will also perform mop-up exercises for National Deworming Day on April 24, 2023.

However, evening schools will function as usual, according to the official letter. The Director of School and Literacy has requested the Deputy Commissioners to take necessary measures to ensure the safety of students and staff during this period.
