Shillong, Aug 22: The prayers of thousands of fans has been answered, as the Durand Cup Organising Committee has announced that the North East Derby match between Northeast United FC vs Shillong Lajong FC will be played in JN Stadium, Shillong on Monday at 5:30 PM.
“The decision to make this change has been taken in light of the results of the quarterfinal
matches held yesterday. Both matches saw thrilling performances from Northeast United FC and Shillong Lajong FC, whose victories have fuelled immense excitement and anticipation among their fan bases. In response to overwhelming requests from supporters of both these teams, and in recognition of the traditional significance of the chosen venue as a stronghold of support for these clubs, we have decided to relocate the semifinal match between Northeast United FC and Shillong Lajong FC to Shillong and reschedule it one day later, i.e. 26 August”, said the statement.
This move is aimed at ensuring that the fans, who are the heart and soul of the
tournament, can experience the excitement of this crucial match in an environment that
resonates with the deep-rooted football traditions of their teams. We believe this change will enhance the atmosphere and provide the teams with the support they deserve as they battle for a place in the final. However, if Shillong Lajong does win the semifinal match the final game will be played in Kolkata as all other fixtures remain unchanged, added the statement.
