Shillong, Nov 18: Two students of NEHU suffered serious injuries after they were hit by a Maruti car allegedly driven by a security guard of the same institution, who was suspected to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.
The accident occurred yesterday evening at around 7 PM near Gate No. 2.
The two students identified as Daritngen Pohdukhei and Stephanie Shadap, both from Chemistry Department.
According to eyewitnesses, the Maruti car, driven by the security guard, was being driven at high speed. Before hitting the students, the vehicle first rammed into a scooty that was parked inside the campus area. It then crashed into Gate No. 2, injuring the two students standing nearby.
The students were immediately taken to Nazareth Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Later, police personnel from the Mawkynroh Outpost arrived at the scene and seized the vehicle along with the security guard who was driving it.
