Shillong, Oct 25: In a tense turn of events, a Delhi-to-Shillong SpiceJet flight (SEJ2448) made an emergency landing at Guwahati’s Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) on Friday due to a bomb threat—later confirmed to be a hoax. This incident marks the sixth bomb threat targeting SpiceJet flights in recent days, as the country faces a troubling surge with over 250 such threats disrupting airlines nationwide.

The latest incident unfolded as the SpiceJet aircraft, carrying 75 passengers, was nearing Shillong when the bomb alert came in. Immediately, the flight crew diverted to Guwahati, the nearest airport equipped for such emergencies. Upon landing, the aircraft was quickly moved to a secure section of the tarmac, and security forces undertook an extensive sweep, leaving no stone unturned to ensure passenger safety.

Airline and airport authorities coordinated swiftly, prioritizing the safety of the passengers and crew, who all disembarked unharmed. The investigation remains ongoing, with SpiceJet launching an internal probe and working on arrangements to get passengers safely to their final destination.

Officials say that this wave of hoax threats—mainly received via email—has created severe delays, triggered emergency protocols, and strained resources across the country’s aviation sector.

Authorities continue their hunt for the source behind these bomb threats, acknowledging the costly and chaotic impact on India’s aviation industry, which now faces an added layer of security challenges.
