Shillong, March 29: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday announced that the state will have to implement load shedding due to a shortage of power, but assured that the government will work to minimize the inconvenience caused to citizens.

Sangma acknowledged that there has been a slight improvement in the power situation this year, as the state has not experienced power cuts in the months of February and March, unlike in previous years. The chief minister attributed this improvement to the different management approaches adopted by the government in the past two years.

Despite this improvement, there is still a significant gap in power supply that needs to be addressed. As a result, the government will implement power regulation, but with efforts to minimize the inconvenience to the public.

“We are trying to minimize it. The inconvenience to the public is minimal and we try to do it in such a manner so that certain areas are not affected in certain times of the day,” said Sangma.

The chief minister emphasized that the government is taking into consideration various factors while implementing power regulation, such as weather conditions, scheduled events and religious observances.

The shortage in power supply is reportedly due to the dip in water levels in the state’s hydroelectric projects, which has affected the generation of power. The government is exploring alternative power sources to address the shortfall.
