Shillong, Feb 18: National People’s Party (NPP) national president Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday said the people are free to file an RTI into the alleged corruption his government has been charged with by the opposition.

He said he was confident that every detail is in place and in the public domain.

Responding to the BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s claim that Meghalaya is one of the most corrupt states in the country, Conrad said the BJP has done this for election campaign and these kinds of accusations were also made in West Bengal and Telangana.

He expressed confidence that the party will emerge as the single largest party and that they are inching towards getting the full majority.

He also refused the allegations that NPP supporters were violent. Sangma agreed that one or two incidents have taken place, but those are at the local level in some cases but very few.

“These are not because NPP is doing it, these are local issues and local clashes take place sometimes but generalizing and saying this that NPP is violent and workers are violent is absolutely incorrect. We are maintaining peace and harmony. We’ve ensured that our workers are not acting in any kind of way that is not proper. And this kind of statements are not true at all,” said Sangma.

Recently pre-poll violence was witnessed in Garo Hills particularly in Phulbari constituency. The clashes had taken place between NPP and TMC supporters.
