Cattle lifter lynched in Garo village

TURA, July 4: A cattle thief from neighbouring Assam who was taking off with two cows from a Garo village in West Garo Hills on the night of July was caught by angry villagers and lynched.

Thr incident occured in Baklagre village of Selsella.

The accused cattlelifter, identified as Aynal Hoque of Purandiara, South Salmara, Mankachar, Assam had entered the Garo village and was trying to make away with two cows when he was caught by the villagers. He was severely beaten up and by the time police got news of the incident and rushed to the site the victim had succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased thief was a habitual offender and was earlier accused in a dacoity case under Tura police station. He was also a known cattle and vehicle lifter, police said. Meanwhile, police have registered a Suo Motu FIR in connection with the lynching.
