Body recovered from abandoned coal mine in East Jaiñtia Hills

Jowai, May 10: A body was recovered from an abandoned coal mine at Moolait Bri Sumer in East Jaintia Hills on Sunday, police said.

According to officials, the body was initially spotted floating inside a partially water-filled abandoned mine on Saturday afternoon, prompting a recovery operation.

With the assistance of the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF), the body was later retrieved from the mine and sent for post-mortem examination.

Superintendent of Police of East Jaintia Hills, Pankaj Rakhania, said that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
