Guwahati, Feb 18: The Assam Government has launched bilingual textbooks for science and mathematics in the state’s vernacular- medium schools.

From now, the books will be available in English and local languages of the area. The vision of this initiative is to make the students comfortable with English and their native language to help them pursue the two subjects for their higher education.

Last year, printing of science and maths textbooks for Class 6 were only in English language, which had led to a public outcry.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that the objective of this new initiative is to help students understand their subjects in a better way and simultaneously improve their English language skills.
