Guwahati, Sept 23: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police on Saturday arrested six drug peddlers and seized 46 grams of heroin from their possession at Khanapara area of Guwahati.
The drug peddlers has been identified as: Sanjay Biswa(28), Avtar Singh(30), Shyamal Pegu(19), Bikash Ali(23), Nayan Talukdar(28), and Yuvraj Kalyan(24).
Police recovered 46 grams of heroin concealed in 33 vials from their possession.
“Acting upon a source input on a probable drugs consignment, an operation was launched by STF, Assam on Friday morning in Guwahati to foil the criminal act by apprehending the persons involved,” said a police source.
The recovered heroin and the six apprehended drugs peddlers have been handed over to local police of Basistha police station for initiating necessary legal actions by registering a case.
Assam police have launched a massive war on drugs, and tasted success with numerous arrests and huge number of seizures recently.
“Our crackdown against drugs will continue. Our main moto is to make the society drugs free. Due to continuous effort of our police team, we have so far successfully apprehended many drug peddlers,” said a police official.
On Friday, Dibrugarh police apprehended three women from Nagaland with 348 grams of suspected heroin in Joypur area of eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh district. The suspected drugs was worth Rs 1.5 crore.
