Guwahati, June 2: The flood situation remained grim in Assam after the death toll rose to 15 after three more persons lost their lives in the calamity.

All three deaths were reported from the Barak Valley. While a child died of drowning in the Cachar district, two died in the Hailakandi and Karimganj districts, respectively.

Road and rail communications remained disrupted in many districts due to the rising water level of major rivers caused by incessant rains in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal and the early arrival of the monsoon.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a total of 6,01,642 people in 597 villages across nine districts remain affected by the floods.

The districts affected by floods are Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, West Karbi Anglong, and Dima-Hasao.
