Guwahati, July 26: In a massive crackdown against drugs, Assam police have seized drugs worth ₹ 45 Crore in Assam Cachar district on Tuesday.
According to police, a three members of an inter-state gang were arrested, one of whom was injured in police firing while allegedly trying to flee from custody.
Speaking to media persons, Assam police Special Task Force (STF) Deputy Inspector General Partha Sarathi Mahanta launched an operation on the basis of a tip-off about the movement of the consignment from Mizoram late on Monday.
“We have seized 2.5 kg of suspected heroin on a highway near ISBT Silchar during naka checking. A car was also seized from where we have recovered the heroin,” he said.
In the midnight today, STF and @cacharpolice jointly intercepted a vehicle which was coming from a neighbouring state and seized 2.5 kg Heroin and 1 lakh Yaba tablets in Silchar. Also apprehended three accused.

He said, “During spot interrogation, one of the accused agreed to lead the police to the destination of the consignment. On the way, however, he requested to relieve himself but tried to escape by taking advantage of the dark and we have fired on him, which injured him”.
