Guwahati, March 28: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will secure all 15 seats in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in the upcoming polls.
Addressing reporters in Bijni, Sarma said, “NDA candidates will win 15 out of 15 seats in BTC. Along with BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, we campaigned for NDA candidate Arup Kumar Dey in Bijni. Despite heavy rain, nearly 50,000 people attended the rally.”
He asserted that only the BJP–BPF alliance can ensure development in the BTC region. “For the development of BTC, BJP and BPF can work together. No other party can deliver for the region,” he added.
Meanwhile, the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) has intensified its campaign after snapping ties with the NDA and opting to contest independently across key constituencies.
The party has ramped up outreach efforts with rallies across five constituencies in Kokrajhar district—Gossaigaon, Parbatjhora, Dotma, Baukhungri, and Kokrajhar—aiming to consolidate support ahead of the elections.
Clarifying its position, UPPL leader and Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma said, “UPPL has no alliance now with either Congress or BJP. We had joined the NDA with the goal of peace, but the NDA itself abandoned that goal. This is no loss for us; rather, we are in a secure position. The loss will be NDA’s.”
With the UPPL contesting solo following its split from the NDA, the political contest in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has intensified, setting the stage for a direct fight between the UPPL and the NDA-backed BPF.
