Shillong, Feb 24: The A·chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF), on Tuesday requested the Meghalaya political parties for immediate cancellation of party tickets allotment to Non-Garo candidates in the upcoming GDC elections.
ASPF on Tuesday wrote a letter to Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma, president of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress committee Vincent Pala and president of Meghalaya pradesh Trinamool Congress committee Charles Pyngrope for cancellation of party tickets to Non-Garo’s.
“It has come to our attention that party tickets have been allotted to non-Garo candidates in the 14 Betasing GDC elections, specifically to Sanjay Koch (NPP), Ajitav Koch (INC) and Hemandra Hajong (TMC). We requests the party for the cancellation of party tickets to Non-Garo candidates in the upcoming GDC elections,” said Bernita Marak
General Secretary of ASPF.
He said, “The Garo Hills are home to the Garo people, and the majority are strongly opposed to the candidacy of non-Garo individuals in the forthcoming GDC elections. In light of this, we request that you review this decision,”.
“We believe that revoking the candidacies of non-Garo candidates would be in the best interest of the Garo community and would better reflect their aspirations,” Marak said.
