Around 200 workers from different parties in Mawsynram join BJP

Shillong, Aug 9: Close to 200 members from Mawsynram, representing different parties, joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday in the presence of party senior leader and MLA AL Hek and other leaders of the party.

A program was held at the BJP office in Shillong wherein Vice President of state unit, Dipayan Chakraborty, gave the welcome address. He said Tuesday’s event has given the party a big boost and that BJP is strengthening in Mawsynram.

He said the party gaining ground not only in Mawsynram but in other areas also and assured of more development in the coming days.

This development comes after Hek had on Monday confirmed that AITC MLA Hima Shangpliang has shown interest to join and contest the 2023 elections from BJP.

Speaking with media persons, Hek said that with the joining of these supporters it has made the party stronger.

“In the days to come, many constituencies… they will join BJP. Even MLAs and former MLAs also will be joining…BJP will contest more than 40 seats in upcoming elections. We hope that BJP will be lead the Government in Meghalaya,” he said.

Asked if BJP will continue to work with NPP, Hek said that at present they are an alliance but they will not have a pre-poll alliance.

According to him, the people who joined on Tuesday are from Congress, UDP, NPP and AITC.

Asked on why BJP was the preferred party, Hek said that one can’t deny that they have strong leaders in BJP.

“Under PM Narendra Modi who is a spotless leader the party is growing under his leadership. These tall leaders are an inspiration to all the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, he also stated that the party has not decided on the BJP candidate from Mawsynram as of now.
