Shillong, May 22: The All India Save Education Committee (AISEC) Meghalaya chapter on Thursday released the draft People’s Education Policy (PEP) 2025 in Shillong as an alternative to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Speaking to media persons, interim president of AISEC Meghalaya Chapter, Samborlang Dkhar, said that the objective of the draft PEP 2025 is to oppose the NEP 2020 which was adopted by the central government when the country was under a complete shutdown due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Dkhar said that before adopting the NEP, the central government did not place it on the floor of the Parliament for discussion and debate. He alleged that the NEP 2020 will destroy the entire education system in India, hence, the AISEC had come out with a draft PEP 2025 as alternative to NEP.

“Just like in all state capitals of the country, the AISEC Meghalaya chapter today is also releasing the draft PEP 2025 as an alternative to NEP 2020,” said Dkhar.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the AISEC Meghalaya chapter, Batskhem Marboh, said the Meghalaya chapter was formed in 2024 after consultation with national leaders and leaders from Assam as part of the all India movement against the NEP 2020.

Marboh alleged that the NEP encouraged commercialization of education in the country which prompted the committee to organize a series of discussion and debate with likeminded people who are interested in saving the education in the country.

“The AISEC is placing the draft PEP for nation-wide discussions and deliberations, unlike the NEP 2020 which was imposed from above without any discussion or debate among educationists, scholars, teachers and students,” said Marboh.

He said the AISEC welcomes everyone to join the movement to save education in the country from being hijacked by someone or some forces who are not interested in education. He added that the AISEC is taking the draft of the PEP 2025 to different sections of the people and taking inputs from them to improve the draft further.

“After receiving all inputs, the AISEC will place it before a National People’s Parliament to be called for the purpose in January 2026 in Bengaluru as an alternative to the NEP and will demand its implementation from the central and state governments within a stipulated time-frame,” he added.
