SHILLONG, JUN 29: West Khasi Hills police have registered a case after a video showing a man brutally assaulting a woman on the Nongstoin By-Pass road surfaced on social media.
In the video, the man is seen attempting to strangle the woman, repeatedly slapping her, and trampling her on the head on the road.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage online.
Police said the exact date and time of the incident have not yet been confirmed.
“A case has been registered in connection with the video that has been circulating on social media platforms where a woman was beaten brutally by a man,” a police official said.
An investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the assault and to identify and apprehend the accused.
“Police are conducting an investigation into the incident to find out the root cause and to apprehend the man involved in brutally assaulting the woman,” the official added.
