Shillong, June 16: Twenty-four talented young people from across Meghalaya are set to embark on an educational exposure visit to Malaysia after emerging from a competitive selection process involving more than 1,200 participants under the Chief Minister’s Youth Programme.

The students, drawn from diverse fields including arts, culture, innovation, science, leadership and youth engagement activities, were selected through multiple rounds of competition and assessment conducted under the state’s flagship youth development initiative.
The exposure visit is designed to give young achievers first-hand international experience, allowing them to interact with educational institutions, learn about global best practices and gain a broader understanding of opportunities beyond India’s borders.

The programme is part of Meghalaya’s wider effort to invest in youth development through leadership, cultural exchange, innovation and skill-building initiatives. The state government’s youth engagement programmes have expanded significantly in recent years, with participants progressing from block-level and district-level competitions to national and international platforms.

Several of the selected students described the opportunity as a dream come true, saying the experience would help them build confidence, develop leadership skills and prepare for future careers in an increasingly interconnected world.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has repeatedly described youth engagement and international exposure programmes as “transformational” initiatives aimed at preparing Meghalaya’s next generation of leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs. Previous editions of the programme have also facilitated overseas exposure visits for outstanding participants.

Officials said the initiative seeks not only to reward excellence but also to inspire young people across the state to pursue their ambitions and compete on national and global stages.
