Shillong, June 8: National People’s Party (NPP) leader James K. Sangma on Monday filed his nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election from Meghalaya.
Sangma submitted his nomination before the Returning Officer at the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
The Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant following the completion of the term of the incumbent member, necessitating the election to fill the vacancy.
The Election Commission of India has announced that the biennial Rajya Sabha elections for 24 seats across 10 states will be held on June 18. Voting will take place from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the counting of votes scheduled for 5:00 PM on the same day.
The MDA-II, which comprises the NPP, UDP, BJP, HSPDP, and two Independents, finalised the National People’s Party (NPP) vice-president’s name for the Upper House seat that falls vacant after MP Dr WR Kharlukhi completes his term.
