Guwahati, May 22: Two schoolgirls were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Thursday, triggering tension in the area and prompting demands for a thorough investigation.
According to police, the bodies of the two students were recovered from a pond inside Lalkura Tea Garden in the Dholmara area of Kokrajhar district.

The deceased have been identified as Anamika Bara (15), a Class 9 student, and Charita Lakra (14), a Class 8 student of Dholmara High School.
Police said the two girls had reportedly gone missing after returning from school around 10 am.
“The bodies were recovered from a pond inside the tea garden at around 1:30 pm,” a police official said.
Two bicycles and two pairs of sandals believed to belong to the girls were also recovered from the pond embankment.

Police have launched an investigation, and the exact cause of death is yet to be officially established.
Meanwhile, student organisations, including the All Assam Adivasi Students’ Association (AAASA), along with several other groups, have demanded a detailed probe into the incident.
