SHILLONG, APR 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up to contest the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha byelection, with 5-6 candidates vying for the party ticket.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, BJP chief spokesperson M Kharkrang expressed the party’s eagerness to contest the election, stating, “As a party, we would like to contest all the elections. In fact, in the earlier elections, 2009 and 2024, we were ready to contest but got direction to support our partners.”

Kharkrang emphasized that the party has multiple aspirants and is awaiting a decision from the central leadership.

“We had almost around 5-6 aspiring candidates, and we hope that the central leadership takes a decision that we should contest the election,” he said.
The BJP spokesperson expressed confidence that the party’s vote share would increase substantially if they contest the election.

“Once we contest elections, I’m very sure you’ll see the vote share of the BJP increase substantially this time,” Kharkrang said.
