Tura, March 14: Amid the prevailing law and order situation in West Garo Hills district, the district administration has directed all government employees to exercise strict restraint while using personal and social media accounts, warning that any violation could invite legal and disciplinary action.
In an order issued by the District Magistrate, government employees have been prohibited from posting, sharing, or forwarding any content that may be incendiary or provocative, including messages, audio or video clips, images, or other materials that could potentially disturb public peace.
The directive also cautions employees against commenting on or posting about law and order incidents occurring in other districts or states in a manner that could trigger public reaction or create resentment among different sections of society.
The order applies to all government offices in West Garo Hills, with Heads of Offices instructed to ensure that employees strictly adhere to the guidelines.
The administration stated that the measure has been taken in the larger public interest to maintain peace and stability in the district, particularly in view of the sensitive situation currently prevailing in the region.
Officials warned that any violation of the directive will lead to legal action under relevant provisions of law, apart from disciplinary proceedings under the Meghalaya Civil Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 2019.
