Tura, March 11: Amid tensions in the Garo Hills region, the A·chik Baptist Dal·gipa Krima (ABDK) No. IV, a Garo Baptist association based in Tura, has urged residents to take part in a special prayer service aimed at restoring peace and harmony.

The church body in a statement appealed to citizens across the region to come together in prayer during what it described as a crucial time for Garo Hills. The association stressed that unity, compassion, and mutual understanding among communities are essential to overcome the present unrest.

According to the organisation, the purpose of the prayer gathering is to guide people towards the right path, eliminate hatred, and promote communal harmony in the region. It also urged people to pray for those affected by the recent disturbances, as well as for individuals and authorities working to restore peace and stability.

“The collective prayers of people can help heal divisions and strengthen the spirit of brotherhood across Garo Hills,” the association said, expressing hope that peace and normalcy would soon return.

Meanwhile, the Mother’s Union Tura also appealed to the public to refrain from unlawful activities such as vandalism and other antisocial acts.

The group said violence would not bring any positive outcome and urged people to remain calm and act responsibly. It noted that the elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) have already been postponed, providing time to follow due process and make necessary amendments to the rules governing who can contest the elections.

“Violence will not help achieve anything,” the union said, adding that as mothers they wished to see lasting peace in Garo Hills and a future where their children can grow and prosper.

The organisation expressed hope that the public would heed their appeal and work collectively to maintain peace and harmony in the region.
