55 live anti-aircraft rounds seized from bamboo hideout in Meghalaya’s SWGH

SHILLONG, JAN 6: A huge cache of ammunition buried in a bamboo grove was recovered during a police joint operation in Santogre village, South West Garo Hills District on Tuesday.

The area falls under Salmanpara Police Station.

“The police team unearthed a cache of ammunition buried in a bamboo grove during the search operation. A total of 55 suspected live anti-aircraft ammunition were recovered.,” district police chief Vikash Varma said in a statement issued here.

The recovered ammunition was seized at the spot in the presence of independent witnesses, following all prescribed legal procedures.

“Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the ammunition and to identify individuals involved in the illegal activity,” Varma added.

The SP have appealed to the general public to come forward with any information related to miscreants involved in unlawful acts.

“Such information may be shared with the nearest Police Station. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, and a suitable reward will be provided,” he assured.
