SHILLONG, NOV 8: The Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners’ and Drivers’ Association (MCTODA) has decided to continue its strike, awaiting the release of its president and other leaders, following a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar.

“We have decided to wait till Monday for its president’s release before deciding the next course of action. The strike will continue till Tuesday,” MCTODA member Lumlang Mawnai told reporters on Friday after briefing the outcome of the meeting with Dhar to the members of the association, who are protesting along the national highway in Mawryngkneng village, East Khasi Hills District.

“We also requested the state government to immediately release our president and other leaders and members so that there will be no disruption in the traffic flow,” he added.
Asked, Mawnai said the deputy chief minister during the meeting held earlier in the day had assured the association of finding ways to ensure the release of its leaders. Dhar also promised to convene another meeting after the president’s release to discuss the issues with cement factories.

However, Mawnai said the association cannot take any decision on calling off the strike as most of its members are not present.

“We request all members to respect whatever we have discussed during the meeting with the government,” he said.

“If we continue with the strike also, we will ensure it will be a peaceful one,” Mawnai assured.
