SHILLONG, OCT 31: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, will lay the foundation stone for the Integrated Development of Sohra Tourism Circuit in Sohra, Meghalaya on November 1, alongside Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
The project, valued at over Rs 200 crore, is being funded under the PM-DevINE scheme and aims to enhance tourism infrastructure, promote sustainable livelihoods, and preserve Sohra’s unique cultural and natural heritage.
The initiative will focus on community-led tourism development, creating employment opportunities for local communities and promoting eco-friendly tourism.
The dignitaries will visit stalls showcasing local crafts and enterprises and interact with entrepreneurs, artisans, and tourism stakeholders as part of the foundation ceremony.
A public programme and media interaction will highlight the project’s transformative impact on Meghalaya’s tourism landscape. Timothy D. Shira, Minister of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya, will also be present on the occasion.
Scindia will visit the Mawmluh Cave on November 2, 2025, and later travel to Guwahati, Assam, to inaugurate key DoNER projects and visit IIT Guwahati.
