Guwahati, Oct 24: The ongoing investigation into the mysterious death of popular singer Zubeen Garg has entered a crucial phase, with Singapore authorities agreeing to extend legal assistance and share vital evidence with Assam Police.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Additional Director General of Police Munna Prasad Gupta said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case held a high-level meeting in Singapore with a five-member team from the Singapore Police. “The meeting was productive. Singapore authorities have assured full cooperation, including the transfer of official documents and forensic reports through legal channels,” Gupta said.

The post-mortem report from Singapore will be formally submitted via the Indian High Commission, he added. During their visit, the SIT officers also inspected key locations connected to the incident and collected significant evidence to strengthen the probe.

Gupta informed that the SIT will collect CCTV footage and record statements from all witnesses within the next 10 days. Statements from Singaporean nationals will be taken directly by Singapore Police, who are expected to submit their official report within 90 days. The report will then be shared with Assam Police for follow-up action through judicial procedures.

In a major development, Gupta confirmed that substantial monetary transfers have been detected in the bank accounts of Zubeen Garg’s Personal Security Officers (PSOs), Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Bora. “Their activities fall under the Prevention of Corruption Act, as they appear to involve disproportionate assets. The matter is being investigated by the Chief Minister’s Vigilance team,” he stated.

So far, 70 individuals have been questioned by the SIT in connection with the case. Gupta also indicated that members of the Assamese community in Singapore, affiliated with the Assam Association, might be called again for additional statements if needed.
