Jowai, Sept 20: Kiang Nangbah Government College, one of the premier educational institutions of Jaiñtia Hills, celebrated its 59th Foundation Day on Saturday with Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Welcoming the gathering, Principal Dr. L.M. Darnei informed that the college currently has 3,126 students across 15 departments. He highlighted the institution’s growth over the years, crediting the dedication of its faculty and staff.

In his address, Dhar lauded the contributions of former principals and lecturers who, he said, played a pivotal role in uplifting the standard of education in the region. Announcing measures to strengthen the institution, the Deputy Chief Minister assured that 50 laptops would be provided to the teaching staff by the end of October 2025. He also urged students to dedicate themselves to their studies even beyond the classroom to achieve success in life.

Dhar further informed that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth ₹25 crore is being prepared for the improvement and beautification of the college. Earlier in the day, he inaugurated the beautification works and a new two-wheeler parking space on the campus.

The celebration also witnessed the felicitation of NEHU rank holders from the college, long-serving non-teaching staff members with over 25 years of service, and past pupils who have earned their PhDs.

The event marked a blend of recognition, promises of infrastructural development, and a call for continued excellence, reinforcing Kiang Nangbah Government College’s standing as a cornerstone of higher education in Jaiñtia Hills.
