Dibrugarh, April 18: In a major crackdown on illegal activities surrounding the Indian Premier League (IPL), Dibrugarh police busted a betting racket on Friday and arrested two individuals from the Seujpur area.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Anil Kabri and Deepak Sahu, both residents of Dibrugarh. According to police sources, the duo had allegedly been operating the betting racket for the past month, using middlemen to lure in participants.

The arrests were made under the jurisdiction of the Gabrupathar police outpost. Speaking on the development, Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Rakesh Reddy said, “We have arrested two individuals in connection with an IPL betting racket. We have also seized their mobile phones and a vehicle from their possession.”

The seized vehicle bears the registration number AS 23 AE 7789.

SP Reddy added that the investigation is ongoing and preliminary findings suggest that the racket was being run in a highly coordinated manner within Dibrugarh.

Sources further revealed that IPL betting in the district is often facilitated through middlemen who target youngsters, particularly in the evenings when hotels and bars are crowded. “Many individuals involved don’t even have a basic understanding of the game, but are drawn in by the promise of easy money,” a police official said.
