101 cases filed against timber smugglers in five years: CM

Shillong, March 13: A total of 101 offence reports have been filed against timber smugglers in the past five years, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma informed the Assembly on Thursday.

However, the forest department does not file FIRs, CM clarify.

During 2023-24, authorities seized 190.8408 cubic meters of illegal timber, while 37.75 cubic meters were confiscated in 2024-25.

Additionally, two illegal sawmills in Chibinang were detected and shut down in 2023-24, the CM stated.
