Guwahati, Mar 10: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that attempting malpractices in public examinations will now become even tougher after the latest decision of the state cabinet.

Addressing a press conference, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The cabinet has taken a decision that the NEET entrance exam will be held in government schools as a centre. In some districts of Assam, it was held in private colleges as a centre.”

“The professors of medical colleges told us that some students who got admission after scoring good marks were not up to the mark in terms of intelligence. So, two years ago, we assigned the matter to the Assam Police Special Branch for inquiry. During their inquiry, they found that most of the centres where the medical entrance exam was held were private schools. In Hojai, three private schools were used as medical entrance exam centres,” Sarma stated.

Sarma further added, “New Delhi conducts the medical entrance test, so we could not intervene directly. However, in the cabinet, we have taken a decision that from now on, government schools will be used as centres for the medical entrance test. For the ADRE exam, the DC and SP will supervise the exam centres, and students will be allowed to enter only after biometric verification.”

“I believe that by implementing these measures, we can make medical admissions more transparent. However, since the whole process is handled by the Centre, we have informed the Chief Secretary to talk with the National Testing Agency of India in this regard,” Sarma stated.
