Shillong, March 3: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Monday assured that the government will seriously examine the proposal for the creation of Laskein Civil Sub-Division.
Replying in the Assembly, Tynsong said, “There is no such specific timeline but let the government examine the proposal. We are going to examine the issue very seriously.”
UDP Mowkaiaw legislator Nujorki Sungoh has expressed concern that the government is giving the same reply to his question on the matter since 2018.
Clarifying on this, Tynsong said, “Why I reply the matter is under examination, it is because creation of new civil sub-division or district has to be properly examined by the government and specially it is related to quite a number of departments. Infact in 2021, we have written a letter to all departments concerned to submit all details for creation of the civil sub-division and few department have submitted the clarification but most of them are yet to submit the detailed report.”
“All these reports will be sent to the standing committee under the charmanship of the chief secretary and then the committee will put up to the state government for its final decision,” he added.
Earlier, Sungoh said that Laskein is fulfilling all requirements for creation of a new civil sub-division as it has 1.25 lakh population as per Aadhar enrolment, 15,000 households and covering an area of 500 sq kms area.
“I hope the government will listen to the cry of the people of Laskein for a new civil sub-division,” he added.
