Shillong, Jan 14: Congress chief Vincent H Pala indirectly slammed the Voice of the People Party (VPP) for allegedly adopting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s modus operandi by mixing religion with politics.

“This new political party is using religion in their political campaigning. There is a danger when you mix religion with politics. Pakistan did that, Hamas did that and in Syria too (using religion in politics) but in the end people, who are using religion in politics are never successful in the long run,” Pala said while addressing media persons after a meeting for introducing the 18 candidates of the party for the upcoming elections to the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), slated to be held on February 21.

Thalain tyngeh ka Congress ia ka VPP ba pyniakhleh ia ka niam bad ka Politics

“If you attend their political campaigns, you will feel as if you are attending a church sermon. How can that be? In Meghalaya, we have Christians and non-Christians including Hindus. So how can we mix religion with politics?” he asked.

Pala further alleged, “The modus operandi is quite similar to that of the BJP. They use religion and reservation to divide the people.”

Asserting the need to refrain from mixing religion and politics, the Congress chief said that people of the state are slowly realising their political gimmicks.

“Slowly people are seeing that their words do not match with their actions. They promised to give a reservation but where was that reservation? People are not fools,” he stated.
