19 arm wrestlers from Meghalaya to represent India at Asian International Cup

Shillong, Oct 15: The Meghalaya Arm Wrestling Association (MAWA) on Tuesday announced that 19 outstanding athletes from Meghalaya, including 9 competitors from the para category will be representing Team India at the prestigious Asian International Cup.

This event will take place in Mumbai, Maharashtra, from October 19 to 26, 2024.

“The selection of these athletes is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and resilience. They have demonstrated remarkable skill and sportsmanship, earning their place on the national team,” MAWA said in a press statement.

Among the athletes selected are both seasoned competitors and rising stars, showcasing the depth of talent within the arm-wrestling community in Meghalaya.

In addition to the athletes, MAWA has appointed Aiboklang Paul Wanniang as the team captain, supported by Margaret Pathaw as co-captain. Their leadership will be instrumental in guiding the team throughout the competition. “We are also pleased to announce that Mr. Terence Jones Lyngskor and Mrs. Sumita Kshiar have been designated as the official representatives for the team. Their experience and expertise will play a crucial role in ensuring the athletes are well-prepared for the challenges ahead,” Information Secretary of MAWA, Hubert Lyngdoh, said.

The team is scheduled to depart for Mumbai on October 18, 2024.

“We encourage the community and sports enthusiasts to uphold our athletes in their prayer as they embark on this significant journey so that they will be able to perform well and come home with victory. The Asian International Cup presents an incredible opportunity for them to showcase their talent on an international stage, compete with the best, and further elevate the profile of arm wrestling in India,” he added.
