“We can never build our society based on negativity. We can never take our state forward. Negativity will only lead to destruction of our society and of our people and of our state. Let this be clear. The National People’s Party believes in positivity and positive politics. We will never believe in negativity and negative politics. It is a positivity that should drive us. There are individuals, people, group, parties that believe in dividing our society, that believe that maybe divide and rule is the only way to move forward. I can’t stand divisive politics,” he stressed.

Addressing the party leaders and functionaries who were in attendance including NPP’s national vice-president & Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Prestone Tynsong, Deputy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar, and other party leaders, at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, he reiterated the core values and principles that guide the NPP, which was founded by Purno Sangma in 2013.

Reflecting on the teachings of his father, Purno A Sangma, Conrad shared valuable lessons that continue to guide his leadership. He recalled that his father always told him to be driven by a desire to help and serve the people, and not to think about benefits or any position. A people-centric politics, he said will bring blessings from the people, who will pray for you, and support you.

“Friends, let this be one of the biggest points or takeaways, I should say, from this foundation day, that let our politics be driven by the need to serve the people of our state. Let our conscience be clear,” he said.

He also urged his colleagues and party members to remain grounded and to always remember the importance of humility in leadership. “Humility will take you to places you can’t imagine,” he advised, reminding them that no matter how high they rise in politics, they should never forget their roots or the people who supported them along the way.

The CM also touched on the importance of accessibility and responsiveness in governance. He acknowledged the challenges of leading a small state like Meghalaya, where the proximity of the government to the people requires constant engagement and consultation. However, he also recognized this as a strength, enabling the government to be more attuned to the needs and concerns of its citizens.

The NPP also celebrated its 12th foundation day in the programme. Conrad He acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead but reaffirmed the party’s dedication to serving the people of Meghalaya with integrity and commitment.

“We will do our best to ensure that in our minds, hearts, and conscience, nothing else except the good of our people should drive what we do in the future,” he concluded.
