Guwahati, July 15: Assam’s Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Minister, Atul Bora, is facing criticism after being accused of “illegally” administering vaccines to flood-affected animals. During a veterinary camp in Bongkuwal village, photographs surfaced on social media showing Bora injecting animals, prompting Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, a leading farmers’ organization, to file a police complaint against him.

Hirakjyoti Saikia, the Golaghat General Secretary of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, argued that Bora’s actions could endanger the animals, as he lacks the necessary veterinary qualifications. This, they claim, constitutes a punishable offense under the law.

A senior official from Golaghat Police Station confirmed receiving the complaint but noted that an FIR has not yet been registered. The case is under investigation to determine the appropriate legal steps.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many questioning Bora’s authority to perform veterinary procedures. In response to the criticism, Bora stated that he has been vaccinating pets since childhood, a common practice in the state.
