Swine Flu Outbreak in Assam’s Hailakandi-Cachar Districts, One Child Dies, Four Hospitalized

Guwahati, May 6: A 1.5-year-old toddler, Farhana Khanam Borbhuiyan, tragically died from Swine Flu in Hailakandi, Assam. Four individuals, including three children, are hospitalized at Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) in Cachar district. They are currently being treated in the isolation ward.

The SMCH has confirmed that the deceased child’s blood samples tested positive for H1N1, also known as Swine Flu.

Swine flu, also known as H1N1, is a respiratory infection caused by a type of influenza virus similar to the one affecting pigs.

The outbreak has sparked fears of further spread. A high alert is sounded in the affected districts by the health department.
