Delhi, Feb 27: President of Lamyamba Irabot Memorial Integrated Trust (LIMIT) Malem Thongam is on hunger strike to bring peace and normalcy in the state of Manipur which broke into ethnic violence since May 2023.

The transgender activist has been fasting since 22nd February and has demanded intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restore peace and to terminate the Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki armed militants.

She was, however, detained by the police and along with members of the civil society group Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) for sitting in demonstrations and hunger strikes.

After she was released, she continued her fast in front of the residence of Manipur MP Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, from where she was again detained by the police.

Parliament Street Police have released her and have asked her to stay at the Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in central Delhi where she presently continues to fast and has demanded the scrapping of a tripartite agreement between Kuki-Zo insurgents, the centre, and the state government.
