Late night car stunt at Laitumkhrah police point lands 3 in police custody

Shillong, Dec 9: Three persons were apprehended by the police for their involvement in carrying out dangerous stunt driving at Laitumkhrah police point eight days ago, which has caused a concern to the safety of the public.

Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem in a statement issued on Saturday said the three persons apprehended have admitted to have been involved in the dangerous driving after consuming alcohol.

“The vehicle is identified to have the registration No ML05 U 4845. All the three accused along with the vehicle have been brought to the Laitumkhrah Police Station for further questioning and legal action,” he said.

In the wee hours of December 1, a Maruti 800, white colour, without any registration plate or number was captured in a video which was seen driving recklessly and dangerously with loud noise at Laitumkhrah Police Point.

The vehicle was also seen to have dashed the wall of the round-about at Laitumkhrah Police Point.

Following this incident, a suo-moto case was registered by the Police at Laitumkhrah Police Station vide No. 105(12)2023 under Section 279 of IPC and various sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The video footage had also gone viral in social media for which the Laitumkhrah Dorbar Shnong Pyllun had also filed an FIR in the Laitumkhrah Police Station and treated as supplementary FIR to the primary suo-moto FIR.

Syiem said that during the course of investigation the aforesaid vehicle involved in the dangerous stunts at Laitumkhrah Police Point was traced by a team of the Laitumkhrah Police, led by OC Laitumkhrah from a garage at Laitkor Kyntonmon.

Meanwhile, the SP also urged the youth to refrain from such stunt driving which will put not only themselves but others on the road at risk. The public are also requested to provide information on such activities by dialing 112, he said.
